General questions

We have loads of events and courses to get you riding and exploring Tāmaki Makaurau. Learn more about what we offer below.

If you do not have a bike we can bring one along for you, just let us know your height so we can make sure it fits.

For Gold courses and E-Bike Silver courses you should bring your own bike. If transporting your bike is an issue, again, let us know and we can bring you one of ours.

Yes! All of our courses and events are completely free.

For most of our courses and events we will supply a bike for you, but you are welcome to bring your own. For our bike maintenance sessions, it is recommended to bring your own bike so you can become familiar with your equipment.

We offer courses and events for all levels, whether you are just starting out or are looking to get more comfortable in high traffic areas. Our courses are categorised into three riding levels:

  • Our beginner courses are suitable for anyone new to bike riding, including those returning to riding after a long time.
  • Our intermediate courses are suitable for people who want to cycle to work or explore their neighbourhood by bike.
  • Our advanced courses are suitable for commuters, recreational riders and sports cyclists who want skills for the road conditions they expect to encounter.

We recommend you bring along the following items:

  • Make sure you are wearing comfortable clothes and covered shoes
  • Bring a few snacks and a water bottle
  • Wear sunscreen and pack a raincoat
  • We'll have bikes on hand for you to try and use for the session but you are welcome to bring your own. It is helpful to learn and get familiar with your equipment.
  • A bag to hold your belongings as our bikes don't have baskets.

You can update attendee details at anytime, up until 48 hours before your course. You can make an update by navigating to your booking summary page. The link to your booking summary page can be found in your confirmation email.

Bike skills questions

Learn how to ride a bike or get more comfortable riding on busier roads with our adult bike skills courses. Our courses are suitable for different skill levels and for individuals interested in using a bike or an e-bike. For those looking to learn how to do a maintenance check on their bike, fix a puncture or lube a chain, we have bike maintenance sessions on offer.

Learn more about our courses or read "How do I know what skill level I am?" to find out more about which course is best suited to your current skill level.

Our Adult Bike Skills courses are for people aged 18+. If you are looking to get your child riding, then have a look at our Kids Learn to Ride drop-in sessions.

Yes! We would recommend you come along to a bronze (beginner) bike skills course to start your cycling journey.

Kids Learn to Ride courses are suited for kids ages 2 - 8 years old. This age restriction is largely due to the bike sizes we have available at these courses. If you have an older child with their own bike who would like to learn, then you are welcome to bring them and their bike along.

Sure thing! It will be great to keep you involved in the session with your child. We won't have bikes or space available for adults to ride alongside their children, but our instructors work with parents as well to give them tips and tricks to support their child as they get started on a bike.

We have a range of kids bikes available during each session, however, if your child has their own bike and helmet, then bring them along with you. Instructors will be able to safety check them and ensure they are suitable and the right size for your child.

Ensure your child is dressed in suitable clothing for riding a bike. For example we recommend closed toe shoes and no loose clothing that could get caught in moving parts. We still ride in the rain, so if it's looking damp bring along a raincoat and a warm layer.

We have a range of kids bikes available. We have 12" and 16" balance bikes, and 18", 20" and 24" pedal bikes. Our emphasis is on teaching kids how to balance, so we do not use training wheels on any of our bikes.

Bike maintenance questions

This fun, hands-on workshop takes the mystery out of caring for your bike/e-bike – from naming basic parts to fixing a flat tyre. It’s best to bring your own bike/e-bike if you can.

You’ll learn:

  • to do a maintenance check
  • the parts of your bike
  • removing and fitting a wheel
  • how to fix a puncture
  • cleaning and lubricating your bike.
  • storing your bike and locking it securely.

Our bike maintenance courses are for people aged 18+ and are suitable for all riding capabilities.

It’s best to bring your own bike/e-bike if you can, so you can become familiar with your own equipment.

Guided ride questions

Our guided bike rides tour through cycle routes across Tāmaki Makaurau, including the newest and most scenic routes on our network. Many routes have connections to local schools, cafes, town centres and more, these rides are perfect for local trips and getting out to discover our region.

These rides are for people aged over 18 years old who are comfortable riding on bike only paths.

For our guided bike rides, you will need to have a reasonable level of fitness (for example, be able to ride a push-bike for 2 or 3km) alternatively, zip around with ease at one of our e-bike guided rides.

Unfortunately these guided bike rides are for adults only. For kids aged 2- 8 years old we offer a drop in style sessions called Kids Learn to Ride.
